Open the Book

Each week during term time a group of volunteers from the local churches (including Zoar) visit two local schools to lead a weekly school assembly.

'OPEN THE BOOK'  is a national programme to help local churches to help schools to fulfil their legal requirements in proving a daily act of worship.

As one person reads the story from the Lion Storyteller Book, a group normally act it out and include the children along the way. Anything can happen!

The assemblies are enjoyed by children and teachers alike!

New volunteers are always welcome though a D & B safeguarding check is a requirement for all.

The following is an extract taken from the Open the Book website...

OPEN THE BOOK offers primary school children an opportunity to hear the major stories of the Bible in an interactive and enjoyable way during assembly times. Teams of Christians from local churches tell the stories in a 10-15 minute presentation. This can be incorporated into a wider school assembly, or stand alone.

All the Year One stories are taken from The Lion Storyteller Bible written by Bob Hartman, and give an overview of the Bible from Creation to the Ascension. There are a further 2 years of themed material for those schools (and teams) who wish to continue. It is a mark of OPEN THE BOOK's popularity that most schools continue with the programme!

OPEN THE BOOK fulfils both OFSTED and SIAS (Church School Inspection) requirements for Collective Worship, and has been successfully used in a multi-faith context.
